Teya-Teyaneng
Geography and history
Teya-Teyaneng is a town situated in the Berea region of Lesotho. It is located 42 km from the country’s capital, Maseru, on the A1 road. This busy town is locally known by its abbreviated form, “TY” and the name of this town means “Place of Quick Sands.” In 1886 Teya-Teyaneng was established as the capital of the region by Chief Masupha.
From its hilltop the village affords a spectacular view of the lowlands to the northwest and the Maloti (Maluti or Front Range) Mountains to the southeast. Teya-teyaneng is a market centre and is known for the production of finely woven mohair rugs and other textiles and for stoneware pottery
Teya-Teyaneng is very well-known for its cricket and football sports activities. The town has a total population of approximately 80 000 residents.
