Roma
Geography and history
Roma is a town situated in the Maseru region of Lesotho. The town of Roma is located about 35 km from the country’s capital city, Maseru. The town was founded by Roman Catholic missionaries in 1862 and laid out in the valley named Tloutle. Roma is a densely populated area which now has three seminaries and various novitiates.
Roma is now considered the educational and spiritual heart of Lesotho. A hospital was opened in 1937 in this town and named St Joseph’s Hospital. It is now run by a Board under the Archbishop of Maseru .Roma now has three seminaries and various novitiates, and they began the institution that became the National University of Lesotho.
